Raw shrimp can be delicious, whether you're a fan of sashimi or on a raw diet. Knowing how to prepare and eat the raw shrimp is something that is easy to learn for even the novice cook or beginning dieter. The uncooked meat of shrimp is sweet, tender and accents a variety of different flavors on your plate, making it an ideal seafood accompaniment to seaweeds, raw vegetables and a wide range of sauces.
Instructions
Preparing the Shrimp
- 1
Obtain Amaebi, a sashimi breed of shrimp, from a local fish market or other specialty grocer. Slice the underside of the shrimp from the head down to the fanned part of the tail. Also do this between the legs down the center of the shell.
2Rinse the raw shrimp clean with cool water and a vegetable brush.
3Drop the sliced shrimp into a glass bowl. Leave the heads, legs and shells intact after slicing them.
4Pour on the lime juice and add the cilantro and dill herb.
5Cover the bowl with cling wrap and refrigerate it for 24 to 48 hours. The citric acid in the lime juice "cooks," the meat of the shrimp, making it safe for consumption, and delicious as well.
Eating the Shrimp
- 6
Grasp the head of the shrimp between your thumb and forefinger on one hand. Grasp near the fanned part of the tail with the other hand.
7Pull your hands apart, removing the head from the shrimp. The tender, pink meat of the shrimp should slide out of the shell with ease.
8Dip the meat of the shrimp into your choice of sauce, such as wasabi, soy or another blend. Place the entire piece of shrimp into your mouth to enjoy the sweet flavors of the raw Amaebi.
