Green Soup Diet

Soup is a healthy and satisfying way to get your daily serving of five vegetables as well as essential vitamins and nutrients. If you are planning a detox regime, soup is your best friend, and there are many soups to choose from. However, consider the Green Soup Detox. Green soup is chock-full of vegetables and can be used as a meal. Vegetable soups provide a lot of energy and are easy to digest.

Making the Soup

    The most important ingredient in green soup is spinach. This dark, leafy vegetable is full of vitamins A and C, and iron. Use a bag of pre-washed spinach. Spinach cooks down quickly, so dont be alarmed if this seems like a lot of spinach. You will also need two tomatoes and whatever green vegetables you have on hand including broccoli, kale, zucchini, green beans, asparagus, even peas. Other veggies you might use are leeks, carrots and potatoes. Add about cup of each. Chop up two to three onions to add if you wish.

    Combine all the ingredients, except the spinach and onions, in a large stock pot filled up halfway with water. Boil the stock until it simmers, then add the chopped onions and spinach. Cook for another 10 minutes and remove from the heat. Allow to cool to room temperature, then transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Serve warm, and keep the excess in an airtight container in the fridge. You can also freeze the soup for up to six months. If you want to thicken the soup, add a handful of couscous or brown rice.

    Eat the soup at least once a day, every day for one week.

Detox Tips

    Detox programs are a great way to shed a few pounds, cleanse the colon and in general make you feel lighter and more energetic. However, there are some precautions that experts recommend, which will make your detox go smoothly. First, drink plenty of water--at least two quarts a day. Ideally this should be distilled water, not water from the tap. Second, consume lots of fiber. Great sources include whole wheat toast and brown rice or such fruits as strawberries and blueberries, as berries are high in fiber. You might also try a fiber supplement. Finally, do lots of deep breathing, try to minimize stress, and avoid strenuous activity as much as possible during this time.
