How to Reverse Damage From Alcohol Abuse

The effects of alcohol abuse on the body can be far-reaching, from liver and pancreas to brain damage. Once you decide to stop drinking, you may be able to reverse some of the damage you've created if you follow the right steps.

Instructions

    1

Practice long-term sobriety. According to a Stanford University survey, the longer alcoholics remained sober, the better their cognitive functions became. This is a first step to repairing the brain damage you may have suffered from years of alcohol abuse.

    2

Take milk thistle seeds. These are usually available as an extract and have been shown to help improve and repair liver functions. Although not guaranteed to work for everyone, taking them may help.

    3

Start a workout regime. As the body cleanses toxins from your system through the pores, which occurs with any level of sweating, your body is better able to oxygenate, which in turn helps your overall system repair itself.

    4

Practice a healthy diet. By losing weight and taking in extra vitamins, you will begin to see an improvement in your overall health. Low-fat diets with plenty of whole grains and fruits and vegetables can help you lose weight, lessening the stress on your body. As you have less stress, your body can work on repairing the damage from alcohol abuse. Also recommended is taking antioxidants from natural sources, such as Vitamin D-heavy foods.
