Big Healthy Soup Diet

Big Healthy Soup Diet

Many people who want to lose weight have tried a number of diets and failed. Weight can usually be lost at the beginning of a diet. The problem often comes down to not being able to stick to the plan. People get tired of being deprived and start to cheat. Linda Lazaride, an author from the United Kingdom, states in her book "The Big Healthy Soup Diet" that her plan can help people lose weight faster and easier than any other.

What Is the Diet Based On?

This is a diet that focuses on soups of all kinds, even cream soups. The author states that soup is a comfort food, and comfort foods are what people crave. This diet is set up to satisfy those cravings and therefore reduce the tendency to cheat while dieting. She also believes that certain foods are power foods and that they can help in weight loss. The use of these foods is also discussed in the book.

Why Soup?

Soup is a satisfying and comforting meal. Part of that comes from its being warm. Soup can also be part of a healthy diet according to the Dunn County Cooperative Extension in Association with the University of Wisconsin. People often turn to salads, fruits, yogurts and other cold foods when they decide to lose weight. After a short while, the author feels that our bodies crave food that is warm. She even says that cold food can lead to depression. That is where soup comes in. Healthy soups can be comparable to a salad in calorie content while offering the body what it wants. Oriental medicine has been aware of the results of eating cold food for many generations. They hold a belief that eating a diet of cold and raw foods can actually promote weight gain.

The Recipes

The cabbage soup diet was very popular for a while and most people who stuck to it lost weight. The problem was that eating a diet consisting of only cabbage soup can be boring. Linda Lazaride wanted to take the success of the cabbage soup diet and expand on it. She thought that, if she could come up with more healthy, flavorful recipes, people would stay on the diet, and so she devised more than 60 recipes for her book, including Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Soup, Russian Lemon Soup, Broccoli Cream Soup with Stilton, Chinese Egg and Spring Onion Soup, Scallop and Potato Soup, and Mung Bean Soup with Garlic and Ginger.
