Diets for People on the Go

Diets for people on the go can be hard to come by. Preparing healthy foods takes time, and if you're always busy, it's a lot easier to swing by a fast-food place. If you want to lose weight even though you're busy, you need to limit the calories you eat, just like everyone else. Rather than following a fad diet, eat healthful foods and watch your portion sizes. For best results, track the calories you eat daily and stay between 1,200 to 1,500 calories.

Prepared-Meals Diets

One way to easily control your portion sizes is to choose a diet that focuses on foods that come prepared. You simply have to heat the meal in the microwave and eat it, which can save a lot of time. Companies such as Nutrisystem and BistroMD specialize in this type of diet plan. You order the foods that you want, and the company sends the meals to your door.

However, you can also purchase frozen meals from the grocery store. If you purchase your own meals, be sure to carefully read the nutrition label. Some frozen meals have well over 1,000 calories and may hide this fact by listing the package as two servings.

Healthful Homemade Food

You can also work harder to prepare homemade foods that are healthful and nutritious. One strategy is to purchase pre-cut vegetables so that all you have to do is throw them together in a salad. You can also make good use of a crock pot--put all the ingredients in the pot, and the meal is finished by the time you come home from work.

Another option for busy people on a diet is to try once-a-month cooking. In this plan, you prepare a month's worth of food in just one day, freezing all of the meals to eat at later times. If you are cooking for one, freeze the food in individual portion sizes, as this makes it easier to heat up later.

Fast-Food Strategy

When you're busy, it's unrealistic to think that you'll never stop at a fast-food restaurant. Fortunately, you can still eat fast food on a diet--you just have to enter the restaurant with a plan and stick to it.

Try to look at the menu beforehand so that you can choose foods that fit within your calorie budget. Make a list of good choices from each restaurant so that you always know what to order. Avoid fried foods and ask for condiments--such as dressings or mayonnaise--on the side.
