Jaw & Ear Pain With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Jaw & Ear Pain With Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis can cause fatigue, loss of appetite and swollen glands. It can also cause joint pain. If it causes pain in the joint of your jaw, it could lead to pain in your jaw and ear.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

An autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation in your joints and the tissues around them, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Temporomandibular Joints

Your temporomandibular joints connect your skull and jaw. If rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation and problems with these joints, you could experience pain in several different areas.

Jaw Pain

Jaw pain triggered by problems with the temporomandibular joints is often worse in the morning or late afternoon. It could be accompanied by popping or clicking in your jaw.

Ear Pain

Temporomandibular joint problems can also lead to earaches. You could experience ringing in your ears as well, according to the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Treatments

Rhuematoid arthritis is treated with antirheumatic drugs and anti-inflammatory medication. Pain radiating from your temporomandibular joints can be treated with pain relievers and resting the joint.
